The SlowBlade Manifesto
- Part 1
 |
Commentary: Consider the smiley face. Who knows what the truth is? Our senses tell us that the smiley face is a circle, two dots, and an arc in a specific relationship to each other. Our perception tells us that it is a smiley face. No matter how we try to see it as an ensemble of geometric elements, we cannot. This response is the gestalt, "the whole is more than the sum of the parts". I don't remember interacting with an individual that looks like this. This particular smiley face seems a bit sad, despite his smile. Does it seem that way to you? Why can't I see this image the way my senses tell me? My interaction with others may be influencing my perception. Now there is a matter of trust, weighing certain individual's perception over others'. Who is it, that whispers unto you? Do you listen because the perception expressed appeals to you over other perceptions? |
